Class Description

Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding is a slower, more precise welding process used for motorcycle frames, the International Space Station, and other applications where human life or aesthetics are important. Though more difficult to master than other welding techniques, the effort is worth it for the consistent heat penetration and higher-quality welds. In this two-evening class (Tuesday and Thursday), you'll learn the equipment, process, and techniques for TIG welding reactive metals like aluminum and high-chromium metals like stainless steel. With guided instruction and personal feedback, you'll achieve better, more repeatable results in less time than learning on your own or through YouTube. By the end of the class, you'll be TIG welding steel. TIG welding can be used for repairs on your bike where appearance and strength are both important, as well as for fabricating art, furniture, movie props, and DIY car restoration. With practice, you can weld segments together, grind and polish the welds to make them disappear. In this intensive one-on-one class, you'll learn the fundamentals of basic hand techniques and receive direct feedback on what you're doing wrong, setting you on a path to consistency and higher skill levels over time. After the intro, you're welcome to practice in the shop without supervision, with hourly and monthly memberships available to fit all budgets. You'll work on state-of-the-art inverter welders, and the instructor will provide live reviews of some of the best imported and affordable inverter welders on the market. Tuition is $285, including materials and supplies. Helmets, jackets, gloves, and tools are provided. About the instructor: With over 25 years of experience, the instructor learned the craft in trade school and worked as a fabricator in the service, honing MIG and TIG skills as a prop fabricator for the film industry. TIG welding is one of the most useful skills they've learned, serving a lifetime.
